Announcing UCEA Program Centers 2012 Mini-Grant Winner

UCEA is pleased to announce the winner of the annual program centers mini-grant compeition. A competitive mini-grant of up to $5,000 is awarded each fiscal year by the UCEA Executive Committee to assist established UCEA program centers in conferences, activities, and product dissemination. Competitive 2012-2013 mini-grant proposals were due to Julian Vasquez Heilig by June 5, 2012 and included (a) purposes of the grant, (b) specific outcomes projected from the use of grant funds, and (c) a detailed budget.  The Executive Committee made mini-grant award decisions at the summer meeting in July of 2012.

The awardee is.... The Center for Leadership in Law and Education at Clemson University.

In their words... "This proposal is for a mini grant to be used for part of the expenses for the opening event and announcement of the beginning of the UCEA Center for Leadership in Law and Education at Clemson University, to be held in fall 2012.  The budget for the use of $5,000 is below.

The grant will be used to conduct a major, newsworthy event for the official announcement of the partnership between Clemson and UCEA to establish a center to study, educate, disseminate and influence the law affecting the education of children in our society.

We plan to bring a major scholar in our field to the Clemson campus for 3 or 4 days to emphasize the importance of a UCEA Center.  We envision a major public speech to which leaders of our professional associations, legislators, other policy/law centers and the leaders of advocacy groups for the welfare of children and their education and other dignitaries will be specifically invited.  It is our hope that the Executive Director and other UCEA leaders will also be able to attend."

The potential impact of this particular program center is boundless. The fact that it is at Clemson is exciting! It is indeed a good day to be part of this focus forward organization. Well done UCEA and Clemson.
