Journal editors's name and short bio

Gerardo R. López is Professor at Michigan State University. His research interests focus on school-community relations and the educational experiences of im/migrant students. He has served in various leadership roles within UCEA, including service as a PSR, Executive Committee member, and UCEA President. Prior to his current position, he served on the faculty at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Indiana University, Loyola University-New Orleans, and the University of Utah.

Journal Co-Editors

  • Curtis A. Brewer Ph.D. is a Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio. His research interests include political action by educators, the utilization of democratic theory in educational arenas, and critical policy studies.
  • Nathern Okilwa, PhD, is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Both personal and K12 professional experiences have shaped Okilwa's scholarly interests and commitment to educational outcomes for students. Some of Okilwa’s areas of scholarly interest include educational access and equity for underserved students, educational policy, sociocultural influences, school leadership, and international organization of schooling.
  • Dr. Mark S. Giles is a Professor and the Department Chair in Educational Policy Studies in the College of Education at the University of Illinois Chicago. His scholarship and teaching interests include 20th century African American history focusing on the complexities of racial dynamics and racism on Black communities, African American educational leadership (critical biographies) and Black student agency (K-12 and college/university levels), social justice-equity leadership in schools and colleges, African American spirituality, critical race studies, and qualitative methodologies.
  • Mariela A. Rodríguez, Ph.D. is a professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at The University of Texas at San Antonio. Her primary area of research focuses on the supportive practices of school leaders working with culturally and linguistically diverse students. She is UCEA Past-President and currently serves as Vice President of AERA Division A.

Associate Editors

  • Jo Beth Jimerson PhD is Professor of Educational Leadership and the William L. and Betty F. Adams Chair of Education at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. She works with aspiring and practicing campus leaders, as well as aspiring scholars, via TCU’s graduate programs in PK-12 educational leadership. Her research focuses on educational data use, the role of leadership content knowledge in supporting effective coaching and supervision of teachers, and factors affecting school principal resiliency and burnout.
