on Educational Leadership and Leadership Preparation
UCEA has been honored to partner with the Wallace Foundation over the past decade to support the development of university district partnerships, enhance leadership preparation, and amplify research to our membership. Here you will find information on Wallace reports, Convention Town Halls, In the Lead Podcasts (seasons 1 and 3), and much more.
Summer learning is no longer just about remediation—it's a vital extension of the school year that supports academic growth, youth development, and district-wide goals. UCEA's "Summer Learning 101 Webinar" explores what makes a summer program high quality, the research behind effective models, and how districts can use summer as a platform for innovation and leadership development. This has implications for both educational leaders, clinical opportunities for aspiring leaders, and leadership preparation. Hear from district superintendents, researchers, and summer learning network leaders about how they design impactful programs that shift the narrative from traditional summer school to year-round learning success.
UCEA's "Summer Learning Primer" (Boamah-Agyekum and Thelen-Creps, 2025) highlights Wallace Foundation-sponsored research on K-12 summer learning programs from 2020 to 2025, a period shaped by the COVID-19 pandemic and increased focus on learning recovery. The Primer reviews 16 reports organized into five themes, offering insights and recommendations for educational leadership and leadership preparation. A key message is the value of collaboration among stakeholders to create equitable, sustainable programs that support academic and social-emotional growth throughout the year, especially for underserved communities.
